Intelligenza Artificiale ed Etica: un dialogo costruttivo tra istituzioni e imprenditorialità aperto dalla Diocesi di Acireale

On Saturday 28 January 2023, the International Cooperation Hub of Free Mind Foundry hosted the conference entitled "Artificial Intelligence and ethics in a society of pluralism", organized by the Diocese of Acireale in collaboration with Fondazione Città del Fanciullo and Maria Barbagallo and with the patronage of the Cortile dei Gentili. The panel of speakers was made up of leading figures from the business, religious and political world, including the CEO of Free Mind Foundry Simone Massaro, the economist Marco Magnani, H.E. Mons. Antonino Raspanti Bishop of Acireale and President of the Sicilian Episcopal Conference, the Minister of Business and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso and the journalist Salvo Fallica, moderator of the event.

The speakers opened the debate in a provocative way by asking ChatGPT's AI to illustrate the advantages and risks deriving from the application of artificial intelligence in our lives.

At the end of the interventions, the speakers and entrepreneurial figures present gathered around a round table to discuss investment opportunities in the implementation of innovative technologies aimed at improving the economic and social situation of Sicily. One of the focal points of the debate was the problem of infrastructure and roads in the region. Furthermore, the shared importance of protecting historic Italian brands and the country's excellence in the main economic sectors emerged.

Hanno preso parte alla tavola rotonda, oltre alle cariche istituzionali sopra esposte, molti rappresentanti dell’imprenditoria in Sicilia operanti nei settori food, luxury and resorts, agroalimentare, GDO, retail, fintech economia circolare, sanità e molti altri.

Furthermore, the Italian government recognizes that young people are the present and future of the nation and has declared that investing in them and in the development of new technologies is a priority. This emphasis on young people demonstrates the awareness that they can contribute to the growth of Italy and Sicily through the use of innovative technologies and the creation of new economic opportunities.

In general, the event highlighted the importance of the active participation of religious, social and business communities in building a healthy ethical culture that can guide technological innovation towards shared objectives of morality and the centrality of man.

Our society is pluralist. Pluralism, in the social sciences, is the condition of a society in which individuals and groups different in ethnicity, religion, culture, political orientation or otherwise, coexist in mutual tolerance, maintaining autonomous participation in public life and maintaining autonomous management of their own cultural or ideological traditions.

When used correctly, AI can help solve complex problems, increase efficiency through automation and make everyday life easier. Furthermore, innovative technological solutions based on AI can open new horizons and create new jobs, contributing to economic and social development.

However, the concern that AI can undermine human skills and that its decisions are not always ethical or right can be overcome by driving innovation with an anthropocentric approach towards ethical, shared and sustainable objectives.

Una cosa è certa: oggi siamo tutti chiamati a prendere parte attiva alla costruzione di un futuro tecnologico sostenibile di cui siamo tutti responsabili e possiamo esserne fautori.
