In recent years, company management models have adapted to the needs of the market, characterized by requests for greater productivity, speed and quality of the product/service. This has led to a paradigm shift: if previously projects were managed according to traditional management principles, now advanced project management methodologies and techniques are used, such as the AGILE method.
What is the Agile method?
The Agile methodology is an ideal project management framework for promoting flexibility, because it allows you to change the priorities of each phase based on the objectives and needs of the client. Furthermore, it immediately focuses on collecting tangible results.
The Agile method (or Lightweight methodologies) was born in the IT sector in the mid-90s as opposed to the Heavyweight method. This is an innovative method based on continuous interaction with stakeholders, whose satisfaction is crucial for the success of the project and for the development of the organization.
According to the Agile Manifesto, the principles that must be respected for a method to be defined as Agile are:
- Individuals and interactions rather than processes and tools
- Working software rather than comprehensive documentation
- Collaboration with the customer rather than contract negotiation
- Responding to change more than following a plan
Various techniques have evolved to support the implementation of these principles, such as timeboxes for planning, the MoSCoW method for assigning priorities and burn down charts for reporting on the progress of work.
Come funziona l’Agile Project Management?
The project is divided into short, well-focused periods of time, with clearly defined objectives. The work is divided into timeboxes with immovable deadlines, in compliance with which the project is developed. The use of MoSCoW prioritization ensures that deliverables are constantly monitored based on business priorities.
A chi potrebbe tornare utile l’Agile Project Management?
According to the latest edition of the annual Pulse of the Profession study, by the Project Management Institute (PMI), 79% of organizations worldwide use the Agile methodology in project management. Consequently, the demand for Project Managers specialized in the Agile Methodology is increasing exponentially: the Project Management Job Growth and Talent Gap 2017-2027 report published by the Project Management Institute reports that by 2027 companies will need 87.7 million people working in roles oriented towards project and process management, while there remains a notable shortage of qualified talent.
